Pandemic - Greece

Lykeio Gonnon - corona virus situation

Since last March our country is facing a really strange situation. The corona virus situation has changed the way we live, the way we entertain, the way we relate to each other.

Last March the schools closed in order to protect   the students and their families from being sick. For the first time we experienced on- line classes. For the first time we could only meet our friends on net meetings.

The situation at home was strange. We had to stay in, with other family members and share the same rooms for long hours. I know that some families faced economic problems because of the lock-down and the new situation did not  seem fun anymore.

Many of us were not able to participate to the on-line lessons, because the internet connection was bad at home. Some kids did not have cameras or personal computers at home. Big families had to take turns in front of the one and only existing computer at home.

Things did not improve during summer and at the school beginning, this September, we all had to wear masks in class. There was a new reality: masks, antiseptics and restrictions everywhere.  At the same time, we exchange personal items all the time: books, pencils, pens, the way we were used to do.

Some schools have already started on-line lessons, because of the existing corona-virus cases. Yesterday we had 2.600 (two thousand six hundred) cases in the country.

What should we expect this year?  We thought we got rid of the virus last year, but it seems that we are still in danger.  We want to go out, to go to parties and travel. But this might be dangerous for our families.

We do hope that the situation will eventually improve, but we can’t make plans at the moment. School life became difficult and I feel we have lost the joy of being together.

Thanks for listening. We wish you all the best.
