One year
26th of February 2020, the first
case of Covid-19 is confirmed in Romania and that’s
also the date that marks the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic in my
country. It has been over a year since the pandemic started and we
already are at over 1 million cases and things don’t seem to be getting better
any time soon. I think the only way we could get over this whole hassle is by
vaccinating as many people as possible and thereby creating “herd immunity”.
It only took one year for the virus to become a burden for all of the global economy, as well as taking a massive toll onto the daily life of people. On the other hand, I would say my life has actually improved and I feel at an all-time peak, excluding that I wasn’t able to pursue my biggest passion - which is traveling.
March 2020 - The world stood in place. And in turn, we stood at home because of the nation-wide quarantine, which has been like a blessing to me because I felt severely burnt out from school and I was in a dire need of a break to take care of myself, from both a physical and mental point of view. And as we moved forward and school began again, this time in an online manner, it showed me that I study more efficiently in a place in which I feel safe, relaxed, away from any kind of stress and social judgment, as well as that I can actually be self-taught. On top of that, the pandemic also accelerated and forced the process of modernizing and digitalizing the Romanian educational system, which, in my opinion, was much needed. Even if other students might not share the same opinion as me, I can personally thank this whole pandemic for opening the eyes of politicians, teachers, students to different ways of teaching, other than the classical method, which has been nearly the same since the Victorian era.
May 2021 – More than a year has passed since the pandemic began and things finally seem to improve, step by step. More and more people are becoming conscious about the effects of the pandemic, as well as that we must eradicate it as fast as we can unless we want to see society take a bigger hit than it did a year ago. This change in people's mentality is a glimpse of hope that this hassle could end already and be restriction-free, while also taking advantage of the things we learnt during this rife.
To wrap it up, I personally think we have gained plenty of things from this whole pandemic, which might end soon if people decide to cooperate and create the so-called “herd immunity”. And at the same time, the whole world as we know before the spreading of Covid-19 will fundamentally change and we will need to adapt if we want to keep up with the times that we are going to live in.
